John Smith's quick driving and determination may not have given him the checkered flag this past weekend but he did go home with the "Powerade Power Move of the Race" as awarded by Nascar. The team was dishearted after a very disappointing qualifying run that landed Smith in the 24th starting position. With over 25 NASCAR Modifieds roaring to life, the green flag flew. The race was anything but uneventful. There were ten cautions over the course of 203 laps. |

| Smith got caught up in a couple of wrecks that sent him to the rear of the field three different times. He even commented on the radio that his car was like a ping pong ball. Never to fear though, Smith drove his way back through the field and was in 7th when the race came to an end. The #25 team was very excited about their top 10 finish. Jody Utt, crew chief said "Going from 24th to 7th at Bowman Gray...that's a good night ". The crew will take off a couple of weeks before heading to Caraway Speedway on Friday, August 22nd. | |||

The #25 Modified of John Smith was back on the asphalt this past weekend at Bowman Gray Stadium. It was the first appearance at the Stadium this year for Smith and his crew. The Modified events of the night were twin 25-lap races. Smith qualified, started, and finished the first uneventful race in the eleventh position. Burt Myers took the checkered flag and drew the 16th starting position for the second race. This landed Smith in the sixth position. By lap 3 there was a pileup coming out of turn four that left several cars wounded. Smith was one of those cars with a broken spindle. The team will repair the #25 and be back at Bowman Gray this weekend. Qualifying for the 199-lap race will be held Friday night, with the race being on Saturday night. |

| April 14, 2008 - Heartbreaker at Caraway Speedway | |||
With only a few hours of sleep the #25 Modified team headed to Caraway Speedway. After a lot of changes and hard work, Smith went from being last in lap times, to qualifying seventh in a field of 21 cars. It got even better for the guys when they drew the pole for their starting position. The team thought their luck had turned around and tonight was going to be evidence of their hard work and dedication. Smith thanked his team before he led the pack of Modifieds to the green flag. The first few laps were tough racing with Smith and the #47 car of Andy Seuss, fighting tooth and nail for the first position. After several laps of door to door racing, Seuss pulled ahead to leave Smith in second. The race continued bumper to bumper for the first three positions. Smith was left in third when George Brunnhoelzl, driving the #28 Modified, nudged passed him. During a red flag stop at lap 52, Smith radioed to the crew that his car was tight. There was also a lot of discussion about turning the fans on and off to save the battery. Within twenty laps of the restart, Smith started losing ground fast. He fell to the back of the field and eventually pitted. The motor was sputtering and missing due to an unknown electrical problem. The team discussed trying to run a few more laps to keep their track position but decided the damage had been done. The crew was happy with the result of their 70 laps on the track. Unfortunately, they were unable to finish the race due to mechanical problems. This coming Saturday they will once again head to Caraway Speedway and are hoping to make it a full 150 laps. |

Twenty-one Modified drivers traveled to Ace Speedway for 150 laps of racing. Smith qualified and started 16th. However on the first lap, he was caught up in a wreck that caused a bent wheel and tie rod which sent him to the back of the pack. With a double file restart on lap 6, Smith worked his way through the field and avoided a five car wreck a few laps later. By lap 70, the altenator had quit and Smith pulled the car into the pit area to stay. The team will be at Caraway Speedway Saturday night to try and get a satisfying finish on the books. |

| March 22, 2008 - Caraway Speedway | |||
John Smith and his crew headed to Caraway Speedway this past weekend for the first race of the Whelen Southern Modified Tour. The crew was working with a different car than last season and they weren't sure what kind of night was in store for them. They noticed a few problems during practice but hoped they had worked the kinks out before qualifying. With a full moon and crowded stands, the race was ready to begin. Unfortunately, qualifying 15th was the best part of the night for the #25 team. The first 21 laps were smooth sailing until Smith got caught up in a wreck in turns three and four, sending him to the back of the field. By lap 56 the race leader was sneaking up behind Smith, putting pressure on him to go a lap down. Luckily there was a caution during the next few laps to give Smith more breathing room. During lap 61, the crew decided they needed to try and make some changes to the car. That seemed to be the story for the rest of the race. Smith radioed to the crew that the car was bouncing and would not turn. The team pitted four more times before lap 114 for spring rubber adjustments, air pressure adjustments, and a tire change. After lap 120, Smith stayed on the track and finished the race in 19th. The team's finish could have been a lot worse with all the pit stops and adjustments made during the night. However, the crew didn't give up, they were able to finish the race only a few positions from where t | |||
